A Girl Child….

Girl, a word just of four letters, but it includes the whole world in it. No one can imagine this world without them.  A girl plays so many roles in her life like a daughter, a wife, a mother a sister and so on. There is no limit to it.

This story is about a Meena, whose daughter was killed in her womb. Meena was happily married with Mahesh. They got married three years back and were spending a comfortable life in Mumbai. Meena was a housewife and Mahesh a contractor. She was very good wife, she use to take very good care of her family and husband, cater all their needs. She was a perfect wife.

After 3 years of marriage they started planning for a baby. Both were happy as well as tensed. Raising a child is a very big responsibility. A couple has to be mentally as well as financially prepared. Mahesh’s parents didn’t like girl child so as Mahesh. They both were against of having a girl child. They think that a girl child is a risk to family’s reputation and they are useless.  On the other hand Meena was completely unaware about this.

Next day they both had an appointment with a Gyncologist. They shared their planning and then the dr. conducted few tests on Mahesh and Meena. Accordingly she prescribed some medicines.  Meena was very happy; it was her dream that some day she would have her own baby, who would call her “Mummy”. She was very cautious; she didn’t want to take any risk with her baby. She diligently followed all the prescription and hard work showed result.

Meena was on medication for couple of months then finally she got the good news. She was pregnant. There was no limit to her joy. Meena’s and Mahesh’s family were very happy.  Now, Meena was extra careful with her health. She was glowing with happiness and slowly a month was passed happily.

Mahesh didn’t wanted girl child but he couldn’t share this with Meena. He knew it clearly that she is a mother and she would never agree to Mahesh’s thought. But Mahesh was a rigid and insane man. He called his Gynecologist friend Suresh and asked for a favour.

Next morning Mahesh took Meena for a routine checkup to Suresh. Meena thought it was just a routine checkup but actually, it was a Sex Determination Test. She wasn’t comfortable with the test, it was very painful. She said this to Mahesh but he just ignored.

In a couple of days Mahesh got the report and it made him very unhappy. The result said it was “a girl child”, which he never wanted neither do his family. He was angry and furious, but he controlled. He didn’t spook a single word with Meena and immediately called Suresh and asked for another favour. Such a mean person, instead of being happy of becoming father he was furious and angry.

Mahesh meet Suresh and had a long discussion on the report. Finally he came to the conclusion that he wants to abort this child without telling Meena. Wow! He didn’t even bother to ask Meena’s permission. How could he do this to her? It’s not just her child but Meena’s too.  This action might even hamper Meena’s health, may be in future she would never conceive. Such actions show very bad effect on health. But how would Mahesh would know this? He was never a mother not even father. He doesn’t know the pain of losing a child.

Mahesh lied to Meena and handed her a pill, saying it is good of her health. Poor Meena trusted him. She popped the pill and went for her sleep calmly.  She didn’t had a slight idea how horrible would be her next morning.

Early morning Meena was bleeding very badly. She fainted in the bathroom. Mahesh immediately called Suresh for help. He visited and checked her. She was badly shaken with the news of miscarriage. She was crying loudly, Mahesh was giving her his fake condolence. Knowing that he was responsible for all this, he didn’t open his mouth.  On the contrary he was happy that he got rid of this problem so easily.

Meena was on complete bed rest for next couple of months. Slowly she was recovering from the shock. But Mahesh, he never revealed the truth to this wife; he didn’t want to loss her.  An insane man, how could he do this to his wife? Such doctors who conduct Sex determination test should be hanged. People like Mahesh should also be hanged.

Poor Meena, what was her fault, she had done nothing wrong to Mahesh or his family. Why she punished in this way?   She just wanted a baby, her own baby, I don’t think it was a big thing or star she wished. But how could a father be so cruel.

In today’s world girls have reached to Moon, still boys think she is made for kitchen. Now women are ruling the world, they are equally supporting the family, but still she has to always beg for love and respect.

Respect Girl Child, she deserves to be in this beautiful world. A Girl Child….is a precious gift…she just wants your Love….Love her.
